During the recent Australian Championships held at Kirra Beach, Hayley won her 5th Australian Board Title in the Open Womens Board Race, equaling that of the great Reen Corbett who dominated board paddling in the 90s, winning in 1993/94/95/97 and 1998. Hayley has now joined her with victories in 2001/03/05/09 and 2012.  Check out the photos!

It was the sprint finish that proved Hayley Bateup is one of the greatest ironwomen of all time, and is also far from the end of her career. Kurrawa’s Bateup yesterday equalled the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships record of five open women’s board titles, held by ironwoman champion Reen Corbett, before admitting she contemplated retirement during a mixed summer.

News Update: Hayley has just won her 5th Australian Board Title in the Open Womens Board Race at Kirra today, which is equal to that of the great Reen Corbett! Corbett dominated board paddling in the 90s, winning in 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997 and 1998 while Bateup has now joined her with victories in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2009 and 2012. Congratulations Hayley!

Hayley Bateup looked to be coasting as she ran to the finish line to comfortably win the 2012 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships’ first open ironwoman semi-final in half-metre surf at North Kirra yesterday.

Bateup, who led throughout, beat home Mooloolaba’s Kelly-Ann Perkins and Rebecca Creedy, of Met Caloundra to seal her place in tomorrow’s final, which she knows will be her toughest race this season.

Hayley Bateup returned to short distance racing at the QLD state titles at Kurrawa on the weekend in impressive style.
