THE lure of big-wave racing will see Hayley Bateup likely suit up in the Ironwoman Series this summer but the three-time Coolangatta Gold champion has ruled herself out of the iconic torture test.
Bateup won’t race in this year’s Gold despite first prize increasing to $25,000 after the length of the women’s race was increased to the same as the men’s (41.5km).
The lifesaving veteran said her troublesome shoulder, which underwent a third operation recently, wouldn’t be able to cope with the marathon race.
