As the sport begins to regain traction in the competitive television market, it is a fitting destination.

It has been several years since the series has come to the city and in that time it has undergone a revolution of sorts – reverting back to the format and structure of the former Uncle Tobys glory days.

With less than a month to go before SkyPoint Climb opens to thrillseekers, some of the Gold Coast’s elite sport stars have taken a hard hat tour of the new attraction.

SkyPoint, at the iconic Q1 building at Surfers Paradise, is Australia’s tallest external building walk set 270m above the Gold Coast skyline.

Gold Coast Suns players Gary Ablett and Karmichael Hunt together with Ironwoman Hayley Bateup today experienced the SkyPoint Climb.

Hayley showed a very gutsy effort over the weekend overcoming the pain of her ongoing injuries. She finished a creditable fifth which she was pleased about considering she was ready to withdraw from the race due to her injuries. She was amongst the top contenders during the whole race and was nudged out of the top places in the last ski leg due to a wave.

Hayley Bateup says she can return to the form which made her one of the country’s best despite a nagging shoulder injury that nearly forced her to withdraw from the opening round of the Ironwoman Series.

The Kurrawa star missed the entire 2010-11 season while recovering from a shoulder reconstruction and made her return to the professional scene in September’s Coolangatta Gold, finishing third.

But the injury flared up again and Bateup, who is also battling a foot injury, plantar fasciitis, is well below peak fitness ahead of the Surfers Paradise series opener on December 18.  Read more…
