Bateup joins Mermaid SLSC

Champion ironwoman Hayley Bateup has announced she has joined Mermaid Surf Life Saving Club as their new nipper coach.

Formerly with Kurrawa SLSC Bateup said the move was not an easy decision but one that opened up new opportunities to teach a the next generation of clubbies.

“I’m guessing they’ll be teaching me as much as I’ll be training them,” Bateup said.

“I really want to put Mermaid on the map and starting with the kids is the way to do it. I can’t wait.

“I’ll probably see out my competitive career at Mermaid, I’ll be here for three years and it’s going to be a big time in my life.”
