Netfest is just a few days away,  with over 1100 eager netballers packing their suitcases for the world’s biggest netball festival. In addition to the netball action, Hayley will be star in a showcase beach netball match starring alongside NetFest Ambassador Liz Ellis and other local celebrities including Trevor Hendy and the Sea FM breakfast team.

For the first time in history, Queensland’s iconic Surfers Paradise Beach will be transformed into a three-court netball precinct with more than 130 teams from Australia and New Zealand ready to soak up the famous Gold Coast sun.

NetFest offers a choice of outdoor or beach netball tournaments, supported by a range of social activities – and the competition is heating up! The beach format is quickly becoming the hottest new trend for Australia’s highest participation sport, with teams of four eager to kick off their sneakers and play barefoot in the sand.

With record participant numbers, event organisers have hired extra umpires, administrators and volunteers as well as introducing larger venues including the newly refurbished Firth Park outdoor courts and one of Australia’s most famous tourist destinations – Surfers Paradise Beach.

Surfers Paradise Alliance CEO Mike Winlaw is thrilled to be involved. “We’re very happy to be supporting and hosting NetFest on Surfers Paradise beach. A partnership like this with Netball Australia is a win-win for everyone involved; competitors from Australia enjoying our beautiful beaches, the local community who get to enjoy a great family friendly day out watching an exciting sport and also local traders who benefit from the increased footfall coming into the precinct.”

Liz Ellis encourages locals to come down and enjoy the fast and furious form of the game.

“Surfers Paradise will be treated to a unique mix of sun, sand, entertainment and adrenaline-fuelled netball. We would love to see locals and families showing their support over the weekend.”

Both the outdoor and beach competitions will be played in a round robin format on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 October, with finals to be played on Sunday 28 October.
