The Jetstar Gold Coast Titans have formed an exciting new partnership with Surf Life Saving Clubs from the Point Danger and South Coast branches that will see both organisations working together in the community.
In a unique partnership, each of the 21 surf clubs in the Point Danger and South Coast branches of Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) will be allocated a member of the Jetstar Titans’ NRL squad as their official club ambassador.
The program will see Jetstar Titans players assisting the surf clubs with different club activities such as fundraising and Surf Life Saving Carnivals.
Surf Life Saving Queensland Point Danger and South Coast Branches will be allocated one Jetstar Titans home fixture of the 2012 NRL season to activate a fund-raising drive and the Jetstar Titans NRL squad will also conduct their inaugural club-to-club beach walk in January, 2012.
Members of both organisations will also be offered incentives to join up as members of the other organisation, with a percentage of all sales generated being donated back to the relevant clubs.
Jetstar Titans Head Coach John Cartwright today helped launch the new program at Kurrawa Surf Life Saving Club with players Scott Prince, Ashley Harrison and Matt Srama alongside Ironmen and Ironwomen Hayley Bateup, Caine Eckstein, Courtney Hancock, Phil Clayton, Zane Homes and Elizabeth Pluimers.
“It’s great that we now have a formal association with the surf clubs in the region as they are a big part of the Gold Coast community,’’ said Cartwright.
“My family has been involved with surf clubs since we arrived on the Gold Coast so to have both organisations working to help each other in the community really is a win-win for everyone.’’
Point Danger and South Coast branches representative Kerrie Barnes said it was great to have Surf Life Saving and Rugby League coming together.
“Both Surf Life Saving and the Gold Coast Titans are iconic organisations of the Gold Coast who share a commitment to supporting the wider Gold Coast community,’’ said Barnes.
“This is an exciting partnership for the life saving clubs on the Gold Coast and we are thrilled to have the Titans players linked to our clubs and assist us in raising much needed funds for the purchase of essential life saving equipment.
“This is also an opportunity for life saving on the Gold Coast to spread the “swim between the flags” message to a wider audience and assist in the ensuring the safety of the beach going public.”
Jetstar Titans captain Scott Prince will be linked with Kurrawa SLSC while Harrison will have an association with the Currumbin SLSC and Srama with Southport SLSC.
The 21 Surf Life Saving Clubs from the Point Danger and South Coast branches will attend a formal function at the Jetstar Titans’ Centre of Excellence tonight where the allocation of all 21 players to different clubs will be announced.
